CORONAVIRUS TRAVEL RETRICTIONS

Doctor’s Letter

PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST GP LETTERS FOR TRAVEL IN RELATION TO CORONAVIRUS.

It is sensible not to travel to certain places because of Coronavirus (Covid-19), but this is not the same as being unable to travel due to an existing illness.  It is not at present the GP’s responsibility to give advice on where and where not to travel and this advice comes from Public Health England and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Travel companies should be basing their decisions to offer refunds on advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Public Health England, not letters from GPs.

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) suggests it is inappropriate for patients to approach their family doctors for sick notes as in fact this cannot be done for patients who are not ill but have plans to travel to affected areas.

Thank you for your cooperation
